Purchased equipment that can prevent complications During the year we significantly enhanced the capabilities of the Kyiv Oblast Perinatal Centre by buying expensive medical equipment that helps prevent complications during pregnancy and save lives. It is thanks to our donors that we bought a hearing screening device for babies. It allows to detect hearing impairment in newborns and address the problem in the very beginning. Another purchase was a device for non-invasive measurement of jaundice, which is very common in newborns. Thanks to that, every year more than 400 babies will be spared the pain of having their blood drawn. And the babies' moms will be spared the additional stress and worry. A maternity ward got its own fetal monitor that allows doctors to keep an eye on the state of the baby in utero. It can alert doctors to potential problems and prompt to take actions if needed. 269 000 UAH were spent in total on the vital equipment. |
Protecting doctors and expectant mothers from Covid-19 Thanks to our donors and our partnership with Kyiv volunteering centre, we bought 3000 scrub hats and 500 pairs of shoe covers for the doctors that work at the Kyiv City Maternity Clinic #3. This maternity clinic is fundamental in terms of the Covid-19 response. It admits pregnant, parturient and post-parturient women who are showing the symptoms of coronavirus. Therefore, the help we managed to provide was very timely. By giving the doctors and patients the necessary PPE, together we made the stay in the medical institution safer. Pregnancy is an extremely vulnerable period in a woman's life as it is, and being pregnant during a pandemic can be especially distressing. We are happy that together we can guarantee safe continuation of pregnancy monitoring. |
Uplifted the spirits of the future mothers The best Christmas gift is seeing moms-to-be smiling! That's why we carried out the Bring Holidays Back to Moms project that aimed at brightening the day for the expecting mothers who had to spend Christmas holidays in hospital. We also raised the awareness of the importance of emotional health of women with a baby on the way. Not only is it the mother's wellbeing but also that of her baby that depends on it. The packages contained gifts but also special letters that were written by women who had personally experienced being hospitalised during their pregnancies. They could muster strength to encourage the expectant mothers with their heartfelt greetings. This kind of support is invaluable! Thanks to the support of our partners and donors we prepared about 80 gift packages and together with festive greetings gave them to the expecting mothers at the Kyiv Oblast Perinatal Centre and the Kyiv City Maternity Clinic #1. |
Significantly improved the conditions of hospital stay for women and babies Sometimes a pregnancy is difficult and requires a prolonged hospitalisation. That is why we bought 5 hot water boilers and 7 comfortable changing tables for the Kyiv Oblast Perinatal Centre So that pregnant women and mothers with babies may feel comfortable during the weeks or even months of their stay in hospital. |
Taking care of the emotional well-being of future mothers We are convinced that caring for your mind is as important as caring for your body. Especially during such a critical period in life as pregnancy. That is why our Fund founded a programme of targeted psychological support for the expecting mothers who during their pregnancy feel like they cannot cope with their emotions by themselves. Also, together with almost 200 partners from all over the world we carried out an awareness campaign on the importance of emotional wellbeing of women during pregnancy. And we became a global partner in celebrating the World Maternal Mental Health Day. We organised and conducted a survey of mothers in Ukraine regarding their experience of psychological support during pregnancy. Moreover, throughout the year we made translations and adaptations of relevant information material that is helping Ukrainian women to improve their emotional state during the pandemic. |
